HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 23
(By Delegates Rowe and Wallace)
Commemorating the passing of the Honorable Richard H. Bowman,
former member of the West Virginia House of Delegates from
Greenbrier County, respected businessman and public servant.
Whereas,
The Honorable Richard H. Bowman was born July 14,
1903, in Roanoke, Virginia, the son of J. Price and Blanche
(Obenshain) Bowman and was married on September 19, 1922, to Emma
Hunt Taylor; and
Whereas,
Educated at Hargrave Military Academy, University
of Richmond, LaSalle Law School and National Institute, Mr.
Bowman was elected to the House of Delegates from Greenbrier
County in 1954 and reelected in 1956, 1958, 1962, 1966, 1968 and
1970; and
Whereas,
Richard H. Bowman was former owner and distributor
of Gulf Oil Products, Rainelle; president of Royal Crown Cola
Bottling Company, Rainelle; member of the board of directors of
Western Greenbrier National Bank; and chairman of the board of
trustees of Hargrave Military Academy, Chatham, Virginia, for
sixteen years; and
Whereas,
Mr. Bowman was a member of the Rainelle United
Methodist Church, Midland Trail Lodge No. 166, AF&AM, Scottish
Rite of Freemasonry, Beni Kedem Temple and Lions Club; and
Whereas,
The Honorable Richard H. Bowman died at GreenbrierValley Medical Center in Fairlea on March 17, 1993; therefore, be
it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That the House of Delegates of the West Virginia Legislature
hereby expresses its sincere sadness at the passing of Richard H.
Bowman, former member of the House of Delegates; and, be it
Further Resolved,
That the Clerk of the House of Delegates
is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the
family of the Honorable Richard H. Bowman.
